چکیده
Sulfotransferases (SULTs) are involved in the phase II metabolism of endogenous and exogenous compounds including drugs, thyroid and steroid hormones, catecholamines and procarcinogenic agents (Falany, 1997; Richard et al., 2001). Sulfotransferase 1A1 (SULT1A1), an important member of this enzyme superfamily, has high activity towards a wide range of substrates including environmental and tobacco carcinogens. SULT1A1 catalyze the sulfonation of N-hydroxy derivatives of arylamines and heterocyclic amines, which are presented in tobacco smoke, to form more reactive DNA-damaging electrophiles (Ozawa et al., 1994; Chou et al., 1995). Sulfonation can also activate another major class of tobacco carcinogens, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and nitro PAHs (Watabe et al., 1982; Surh et al., 1995; Arlt et al., 2002). Therefore, reduced activity of SULT enzymes may result in accumulation of potential carcinogens. Several single nucleotide polymorphisms have been identified in the SULT1A1 gene (Raftogianis et al.,

SULT1A1 Arg213His Polymorphism is Associated with Bladder Cancer Risk: A Meta-Analysis
BACKGROUND The evidence of an association between the Sulfotransferase 1A1 (SULT1A1) Arg213His polymorphism (rs9282861) and bladder cancer risk is still conflicting. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess the association between this polymorphism and bladder cancer risk. MATERIAL AND METHODS PubMed, EMBASE, HuGE Navigator, and Web of Science databases were searched for correlative articles. T...
متن کاملSulfotransferase SULT1A1 Arg213His Polymorphism with Cancer Risk: A Meta-Analysis of 53 Case-Control Studies
BACKGROUND The SULT1A1 Arg213His (rs9282861) polymorphism is reported to be associated with many kinds of cancer risk. However, the findings are conflicting. For better understanding this SNP site and cancer risk, we summarized available data and performed this meta-analysis. METHODS Data were collected from the following electronic databases: PubMed, Web of Knowledge and CNKI. The associatio...
متن کاملMultiple Analytical Approaches Reveal Distinct Gene-Environment Interactions in Smokers and Non Smokers in Lung Cancer
Complex disease such as cancer results from interactions of multiple genetic and environmental factors. Studying these factors singularly cannot explain the underlying pathogenetic mechanism of the disease. Multi-analytical approach, including logistic regression (LR), classification and regression tree (CART) and multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR), was applied in 188 lung cancer cases ...
متن کاملAssociation of sulfotransferase SULT1A1 with breast cancer risk: a meta-analysis of case-control studies with subgroups of ethnic and menopausal statue
BACKGROUND Sulfotransferase (SULT) plays an important role in the formation of estrogen which is usually conferred as a risk factor for breast cancer. Polymorphism of the SULT1A1 may be closely associated with breast cancer. However, studies on the association between polymorphism and breast cancer have yielded inconsistent results. We performed a meta-analysis including ethnic subgroup and men...
متن کاملCombined effects of NQO1 Pro187Ser or SULT1A1 Arg213His polymorphism and smoking on bladder cancer risk: Two meta-analyses.
OBJECTIVES Objectives: Cigarette smoking is the major risk factor of bladder cancer via exposure to chemical carcinogens. Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP+): quinine oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) and sulfotransferase 1A1 (SULT1A1) have been reported to involve in the metabolism of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and aromatic amines. Therefore, the risk of bladder cancer (BC) ...
